‘Local Italian’ Language, Lifestyle,
Slow Living Tour 2025
Have you ever wondered what a week in Italy with locals would be like in a region that is unknown to most, yet rich in history, culture and culinary experiences in the most raw and real way? The beauty of Molise is that it is yet to be tarnished by tourists and the locals are hospitable and excited to share their daily lives with you in that truly passionate Italian way.
On this tour my husband and I will host you in our hometown Campobasso & surrounds, and we will take you on a 5 day Italian local slow living journey, inviting you in to the lives of our friends & family who run different cultural experiences. Campobasso is located in the high basin of the Biferno river, surrounded by Sannio and Matese mountains, about 45 minutes from the Adriatic Sea by car & is the region adjacent to the now very on trend & popular Puglia region. It is also just minutes away from Ferrazzano, the town where the famous actor Robert De Niro's family is from, and about a two hour drive to the Amalfi Coast.
We want to welcome you to 'our' Italy and share with you it's beauty and culture, by being our guests rather than coming as a tourist.
This is the perfect trip if you are studying Italian, if you're an Italian food lover or if you prefer to relax on holiday rather than have a huge agenda. In Molise you can immerse yourself in all things Italian, live like a local and simply just relax and enjoy !
Come as our guest and we'll share with you :
A walk through the old Murat Town (Centro Storico) and a visit to the Castello Monforte.
Typical lunches & dinners of food from the Molise region.
A visit to my 94 year old ‘zia’s’ (aunty’s) ‘campagna (farm). A vinyard tour and tasting in Ripalimosani, some cheesemaking in Casacalenda, and an Olive Oil day in San Martino in Pensilis, a small town close to the Adriatic Sea.
Evenings are left free to mingle with locals, take a stroll, eat a gelato or have an aperitivo. You might even want to pratice your Italian! Our very last evening will be a farewell dinner spent at our friend Valentina’s cocktail and Italian infusion bar, to give you a taste of the ‘new gen’ Italian cuisine.
Our days
Day 1 - Tuesday 1st July
Welcome to Molise! It is recommended you arrive at the bus or train station in Campobasso where you will be met and accompanied to your bed and breakfast, situated in the Centro Storico (Old Murat Town). In the evening we will all take a short walk around the centre to become familiar with the area. Tonight we will enjoy a dinner in a family run trattoria with typical dishes from the Molise region. (dinner inc)
Day 2 -Wednesday 2nd July
It’s wine tour day today. In a small town called Ripalimosani, we will visit a local winery. This vineyard was born from abandoned and uncultivated land which has been given new life. Along with the rebirth of it’s vineyard, the farm also produces olive groves and other fresh produce on over 220 hectares of land. We will discover how their wine is made, visit the cantina and enjoy an aperitivo before heading off to our friend’s ‘ristorante’ situated amongst the greenery in the hills of Molise, where we will enjoy typical Molisano cuisine, and if you like the odd game of bocce (Italian bowls) today is your lucky day. (breakfast & lunch inc)
Day 3 - Thursday 3rd July
Today we are off to ‘In campagna da Zia’ (my 94 year old zia’s farm) to meet my family at their restored farmhouse in the hills of Santo Stefano. You will also get to take a look inside the actual ‘little Italian school’, my father’s school when he was a little boy before migrating to Australia. Here is where you can ‘be Italian’ for a day. If you bring your walking shoes you can go for a little hike. We can pick our own vegetables for lunch. We will do a little cooking, or you can choose to sip my cousins homemade wine and watch. We will then relax and enjoy a long lunch of what we have just made, on a ling table in the cellar of the farmhouse. (breakfast & lunch inc.)
Day 4 - Friday 4th July
Today we will spend time at La Fonte Nuova in Casacalenda, a village in Molise where we will get an insight on cheesemaking, with cheeses like caciocavallo, a typical and mouthwatering cheese from the Molise region, mozzarella (like nothing you’ve never tasted before) and fresh ricotta. We will then head to Taberna Agricola, a stunning agriturismo in Fossalto to eat and drink the finest of local produce with my gorgeous friend Francesca. (breakfast & lunch inc)
Day 5 - Saturday 5th July
On our last day we will head to a town just 20 minutes from the Adriatic Sea where we will enjoy a guided visit of an olive grove farm that boasts 3 pretty lakes and a beautiful masseria, owned and run by Donna Marina, the daughter of a family of nobles, popes, saints and politicians. We will view and learn how the mill and the bottling process works, and then enjoy a degustation of the twenty different oil types produced on the farm, the eating of olives and some pate`. After our tour we will enjoy a light entrée accompanied by ‘la pampanella’ (a typical dish from San Martino in Pensilis) and a glass of red wine.
After lunch we will head back home for a rest before heading out to my beautiful friend Valentina’s cocktail bar/ristorante for a farewell dinner. Tonight we will get a taste of what the ‘new gen’ of Italians bring to the plate. An infusion of classic Italian delights with a twist. The only way to end our Italian summer holiday!
